Systems Department Updates

The USF Library’s Systems Department has had a busy summer working on projects to improve services for students, faculty, and staff! Here are a few of our recent updates.

New Systems Library Assistant

The Systems Department has a new Library Assistant to help work on systems-related projects, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.  Find out more about Elisa and her work at the library! And please join us in welcoming her!

Single Sign-On for the Library Catalog

Single-sign on (SSO) is now available for the library catalog! The Systems Department has been working closing with our library software vendor and the USF ITS Department to implement SSO for the library interfaces. What this means for our students, faculty, and staff is that when you log in to your library account to view the items you have checked out or to place a request, you will not be required to enter your credentials again as you navigate to other systems that use the USF SSO, such as myUSF and your university email account. This works the same way if you first go to myUSF and then navigate to the library catalog. Adding the catalog to the USF SSO system will help provide a more seamless experience for the USF community as they navigate between the web interfaces they use on a daily basis.

Streamlining Communication with the University Community

A new ticketing system has been implemented to improve how the library communicates with and tracks questions from the University community. The system is currently setup to answer reference questions and field reports related to technical issues. Managing this communication will give the library a better idea of what questions and technical issues come up most frequently. This is valuable because it helps the library assess current services and identify potential improvements. It also helps identify knowledge gaps on our website.
